Case studies

"Airlines aim to build professional and well groomed air crew so in order to pass these interviews you need to look like the part and sell yourself. One of the things I learned at College was how to stand out in these interviews."

As a recent Ryanair cabin crew recruit, Sarah El-Wahabi is flying to locations all over Europe, Israel and Morocco – and says that what she learnt on the Level 2 Cabin Crew course at Lewisham Southwark College has helped her succeed in her chosen career.

“I’ve always had a passion for aeroplanes, from when I was a child, and I decided my goal in life was to work on one,” explains Sarah. “The College trained me to have the right cabin crew mentality and to really know my stuff. I entered Ryanair prepared with all the knowledge I needed for their six-week training.”

Having applied online, Sarah went through Ryanair’s competitive recruitment process which included an English assessment and one-to-one interview.

Having passed the interview, Sarah went on to the airline’s intensive six-week training in Bergamo, Italy, which involved studying for over four hours a day. “I had a great instructor who made sure we were well prepared for the industry, and we all passed the course.”

Sarah began her cabin crew job, based in Dublin, a few weeks ago, and has already visited six different countries.

“So far my favourite route is from Dublin to Palma de Mallora. I’ve become close friends with pilots and other crew members. It’s an amazing job – the lifestyle is glamorous as well as fun,” she says.
