Case studies

I decided to take this course because it would help my confidence, to learn new skills and make new friends.

Hi, my name is Aisha Edwards and I am 21 years old. This is a photo of me from an article I wrote for our newsletter, Moving On, called ‘College Chic’.

The course I did last year was Skills for Performing Arts and I really in enjoyed it very much. The next course I did was Skill for Work Internship and I am also working towards E3 in Maths and English.

I decided to take this course because it would help my confidence, to learn new skills and make new friends. My internship at Sense also gives me an opportunity just to see what retail is like and I hope to have more work experience this year before I leave. I have had some help at the beginning from a job coach but don’t need one now.

I think my talking to people and looking them in the eyes is much better. My reading is much better and I am reading books at home. I am also course rep and student ambassador so I represent the group at meetings with groups outside where I talk about what goes on in College and how I feel.

My teachers help me, let me make my own decisions. We have to work very hard but we have fun. We are really pushed so we do well in our studies and pass everything. We are encouraged too.

What I like most about the college is the games room and I like the library where I can go when I want.

Outside of College I do dance and Step into Dance on a Thursday and a Sunday.

I would tell anyone coming to the college to have fun on the course and to work hard. The year will go quickly and you only have one chance to do it so make it count.

In the future I want to work either part-time or full time and take evening classes to improve my Maths and English.

I am doing good at College and I’m always joyful, helpful and excited.
