Message from the Principal
Southwark College stands in solidarity with our Black colleagues, students, alumni, partners and community leaders. Our College actively opposes racism, and we have been shocked and deeply saddened by recent events in the US.
Tackling inequality is at the heart of what we do, and we will continue to work to address prejudice. A statement outlining our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion as part of NCG has been posted on the NCG website. This details how we will enhance our EDI Strategy moving forwards but we know this cannot be achieved unless the student and staff voice is firmly at the heart of decision making, and that we challenge ourselves to think and act differently.
Through our EDI group we are continuing to work hard to ensure our students see themselves, their backgrounds and cultures reflected in the curriculum. Eliminating attainment gaps remains a priority at the College and we continue to look closely at unexplained gaps in attainment, which we are taking further steps to address.
Southwark College will be working closely with the Students’ Union and our wider student, staff and governing body to ensure their voice is heard and that we continue to be guided by what our students, staff and stakeholders tell us. We will listen and learn and commit to use our position as an educational institution to use our resources, our platform and our voice to support racial equality and stamping out any forms of intolerance and prejudice.
