The Access to HE Diploma Policing and Criminology offers adult learners an integrated and supported year of study through which they will gain knowledge awareness skills and confidence necessary to progress to higher education/university. Developed in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Service you will learn the specialist knowledge you would need to be prepared for academic and practical undergraduate study in Policing and Criminology.

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants will need GCSE English and Maths at Grades *A-C or minimum Grade 4 (or equivalent) or successful completion of a substantial Level 2 qualification. All applicants will attend an enrolment session where they may be asked to complete an assessment to identify an appropriate level of English and mathematical ability to successfully complete the course. You may also be asked to provide a satisfactory reference and DBS disclosure.

    Assessment Method

    The Access to HE Diploma assessment includes tasks which are designed and set by the Centre's internal assessment of learner work. There will also be internal and external moderation of assessment. Assessment could include a mix of case studies oral presentation practical tasks/demonstrations question and answer (written and oral) tests exams with seen or unseen papers and written assignments including essays and reports

    Aims of the course

    The Access to HE Diploma Policing and Criminology provides progression opportunities for adults who because of social educational or individual circumstances do not have the necessary qualifications to apply to Higher Education institutions such as universities. It will give you the frameworks needed to improve your knowledge and demonstrate the core disciplines you will need to progress successfully with the demands of undergraduate study and to become an independent self-directed learner.

    Progression Opportunities

    On successful completion of the course you could progress to higher education or an equivalent programme such as the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship. Please note completion of an Access to HE Diploma does not provide guaranteed entry to UK Higher Education Institutions.

    Facilities

    The model of delivery will be classroom-based learning. You will have access to our digital learning platforms that will provide you with a range of materials and resources to support your learning whilst on this course. Individual tutorial support is available. Additional learning support is also available if required.
