Southwark College celebrated the remarkable success of adult students in the Guy's and St Thomas' Trust Sector Work-Based Academy Programme (SWAP) at a dedicated event. The event featured motivational guest speakers and a recruitment fair offering students networking opportunities with the Health & Care Jobs Hub Team and local care providers to discuss live job vacancies and career opportunities in social care.

Over the past six weeks, the students in the programme have shown significant growth and commitment, with several securing permanent roles with the NHS. This achievement underscores the programme's effectiveness in providing people in Southwark with hands-on experience and valuable industry skills.

The SWAP programmes have a strong focus on real-world work environments and are made possible through close collaboration with industry partners, such as the Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and the Health & Care Jobs Hub. This collaboration ensures the programme's curriculum remains relevant and impactful, providing students with a competitive edge in the job market.

Claire Reed, Assistant Principal for Skills and Adult Education, said: "The success of our SWAP programme is a testament to our students' hard work and dedication. They have embraced every opportunity and demonstrated the skills and professionalism that the NHS and the industry value. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to see them embark on their new careers."

Jasbir Singh Gill, a Southwark College student, shared his personal journey in the SWAP programme. He said: "The SWAP programme at Southwark College has been a life-changing opportunity for me. The hands-on experience and support from the College and the teaching team have prepared me for my new role. I'm grateful for this chance to start my career in healthcare."

The success of the SWAP programme highlights the combined effort of Southwark College and local employer partners in shaping the local community's future. To learn more about Southwark College's Employability Hub and partnership opportunities, please visit southwark.ac.uk/employers.
