Business and IT students from Southwark College had the opportunity to meet with employees from Lloyds Banking Group in a recent industry talk. The workshop offered students an insight into opportunities and potential career paths in the banking and finance sectors.
The theme of the event, entitled "Me at 23", encouraged students to envision their lives at the age of 23, fostering creative thinking about their future goals and aspirations. This exercise aimed to motivate students to take proactive steps towards shaping their careers.
During the session representatives from Lloyds Banking Group shared valuable advice and outlined the various routes into the finance industry, offering guidance on how students can prepare for and succeed in this competitive field.
Devon Hylton, a Level 3 IT student, said: “The session was good. It made me think about my future in a way I had not before. Hearing from professionals in the industry helped me understand what skills are needed and how I can prepare myself.”
Fawaz Shahul Hameed, from the Lloyds Banking Group, said: “It was lovely and engaging talking to the students about their future goals and aspirations. I see a spark in these students, they are going to do great things in the future.”
Scott Peasey, Vice Principal at Southwark College, said: “Industry workshops like this are pivotal in shaping careers for our students. They not only gain insight into the banking and finance sector but also develop the confidence to pursue their aspirations. The industry workshop served as an informative and inspirational experience, helping students to better understand the opportunities available to them, whilst also offering a networking opportunity with professionals from one of the UK's leading banking institutions.
