Southwark College hosted a lively Freshers’ Fair to welcome students ahead of the new academic year. The fair was a livey event that welcomed new and returning students with a day filled with fun activities, live music, stalls, and opportunities to learn about enrichment activities, student organisations and local businesses. It provided the perfect chance for students to get involved, make new friends, and discover everything that Southwark College has to offer.

On the day, students had the opportunity to connect with the College’s Student Support teams, who shared information on available support in areas such as careers, mental health, sports, enrichment activities and societies. They also met with representatives from local businesses, charities and organisations including Met Police, Kooth, The Bridge, RISE, Depual, Change Grow Live, Energie Fitness, expanding their network and learning about various services available to them in the borough.

Angus Andrews, a Level 3 Creative Arts student, said: “The Freshers’ Fair was fun and very interesting. I got to meet so many new people and learnt about different enrichment activities available. It’s a great way to make friends and grow my network.”

Chloe Alexis, Community Safety Officer at Southwark Council, said: “We’re engaging with a lot of students, offering advice on how to stay safe in the community, both on and off campus. The atmosphere is buzzing with excitement, with students actively participating in the activities and interacting with various stands. It's a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with young people and share valuable information that will support their well-being throughout the academic year.”

Scott Peasey, Vice Principal at Southwark College, said: “Our Freshers’ Fair is a fundamental event to ensure all students feel part of our vibrant and supportive community from the very start. We’re thrilled to see so many students engaging with each other, making friends and networking with businesses and organisations. I hope they enjoyed the event, and we look forward to an exciting academic year ahead.”
