Our Drama students showcased their talent, hard work, and creativity by directing and performing snippets from films and plays during their on-campus performance.
The event took place on campus, where the Creative Arts department invited students from different faculties to watch the performance.
Students chose three-minute scenes from their chosen films or plays, with nine short scenes performed in total.
As part of their coursework, each drama student selected a film or play to direct and then acted in another performance. This approach allowed participants to fully immerse themselves in acting and directing roles, encouraging collaboration and teamwork.
Before each scene, the student directors took the stage to introduce their choices, ensuring the audience understood their thought processes and creative choices made in their adaptations. This introduction set the stage for the performance and engaged the audience.
The performance featured a mix of film genres, with students bringing to life scenes from popular titles such as Shameless, Top Boy, Revolutionary Road, Fleabag, Shawshank Redemption, We Live in Time, Ripple and The Sopranos.
A standout moment was a script written by one of our students, Regret. This original piece resonated with the audience, and the students were praised for their courage in creating their scripts. This performance became a crowd favourite, showcasing the student's ability to tell compelling stories.
After the performance, attendees were encouraged to provide feedback on what they enjoyed and potential improvements. The constructive criticism received allows the students to learn and grow from their experiences within a supportive environment. In some performances, the students ' ability to adopt American accents stood out and added authenticity to their performances, enhancing the overall impact of the scenes.
At Southwark College, we are proud to nurture the next generation of talent in the performing arts. This event served as a testament to the dedication and passion of our Drama students, providing them with an invaluable opportunity to work on their skills.
