Southwark College will be hosting a series of events next week to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021, and join the campaign for equality, highlight women’s achievements in a range of sectors and raise awareness of the issues women face in the modern world.
Principal, Annette Cast, commented: “I am thrilled to join in the celebration of International Women’s Day and I am humbled by the amazing social, economic, and cultural contributions women make despite facing inequality.
“Equality and diversity are paramount to everything we do at Southwark College; we are proud to support the campaign and I encourage staff and students to participate in the events we have planned for next week.”
The Student Services team has organised the following events for students and staff.
Monday 8 March
Staff and students will be wearing purple to support International Women’s Day and participate in the IWD 2021 #ChooseToChallenge campaign.
The Prince’s Trust and Dell Technologies will deliver a talk on female-friendly workspaces from 4 – 5pm to share how they have created an inclusive workspace to support women, recognising and actively working against barriers women face in their professional lives.
Southwark College female staff members will be going live on theCollege’s Instagram account from 6 – 7.30pm with Student Union Vice President Horreja Faye to talk about their professional journeys.
Wednesday 10 March
A Belly Dancing class will be hosted from 3 – 4pm to provide a space for female staff and students to celebrate IWD and have fun.
