Our Level 1 Travel and Tourism students recently showcased their creativity and research skills at the Destination Show, an exciting event where they presented stalls to staff and students to promote different holiday destinations.
This event, a mini version of the well-known Destination Show at the ExCeL Centre, allowed our students to immerse themselves in the world of travel and tourism, taking on the challenge of 'selling' their chosen country as a dream holiday spot.
Each group researched and created visually engaging stalls that represented their destination. The countries included Barbados, Japan, Spain, France, Brazil, and Jamaica. The stalls were brimming with flags, traditional food samples, posters, music, and videos, giving visitors a taste of the culture and experiences each country offers. To make the event even more interactive, students created quizzes and fact files to test visitors' knowledge about their countries.
The event was an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge of global destinations and develop key professional skills in the travel and tourism sector. Students were encouraged to engage with new people, explain their research, and make persuasive pitches.
Mya Johnson, a student taking part, said: “I’ve enjoyed coming out of my comfort zone and speaking to people I haven’t spoken to before.” This highlights the confidence and interpersonal skills the students gained from the experience, which are crucial for careers in the travel and tourism industry.
At Southwark College, we continue to provide students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience and build the skills they need to succeed in the exciting world of travel and tourism.
