Southwark College hosted its annual 16-18 Student Awards on 24 June 2024, to celebrate their exceptional efforts during their studies.
Taking place in the College’s atrium, the event welcomed invited guests made up of families, faculty staff and employer partners, to celebrate this important milestone in the academic year.
Jane Button, Principal at Southwark college, opened the ceremony praising the students’ hard work throughout the academic year and emphasised the College’s ongoing support. Jane said: “As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, remember that Southwark College will always be a place you can call home. We are immensely proud of your achievements and excited to see what the future holds for each one of you.”
Awards were presented to young learners across a variety of categories, recognising excellence in academic performance, community service and leadership, with categories of Excellence, Resilience, Inspiration to Others, Diversity & Community Champion and Work Experience awards.
The ceremony also featured captivating performances by the College’s own music students and speeches from special guests, including Giles Terera, a British actor, musician, and filmmaker known for his work in the theatre, particularly in the original cast of the London production of the musical Hamilton, and Ore Ogungbayi, a speaker, trainer and author who helps young people with public speaking, self-confidence and mental wellbeing.
